There’s always that one kid who listens to The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails, decides to be an edgy pessimistic nihilist, and abandons the pursuit of a meaningful life for a bit.
Beautifully said! I’m a lifelong Tool fan but have barely gone through the discography of NIN. I know a lot of the hits but would love recommendations on what albums to start with?
I'd start with The Fragile, its the bridge between their older industrial sound and the new ambient sound. And then you can go to Pretty Hate Machine and advance chronologically!
Very well put! I appreciate the very same metamorphosis. While it’s always cathartic for me to go back to the “angstier” tunes when they’re needed, for me the beauty is in the ability to creatively utilise that anger and fragility, exorcise it in a sense, then build into another phase of strength. (I dunno if that makes sense, but essentially I just agree with all you wrote).
